The children (and teaching staff) all dressed up in Victorian clothes to experience life in a Victorian School. (We certainly got some funny looks as we walked into town.)
During the experience, the children were treated to a full hours lesson. The lesson included the 3 R's, an observation lesson (Victorian science) and movement (Victorian PE). Unfortunately one of the badly behaved children was whipped, and another had to stand in the corner with the dunce's cap on.
However we did see some beautiful handwriting in slate and chalk.
During the afternoon we looked at Victorian toys, played with old Victorian games, and made a Thaumatrope ( a Victorian spinnning toy, which causes an optical illusion).
It was a great day, which all the children thoroughly enjoyed. Hopefully with a lot of memories that will stay with them for a long time, and the realisation that actually- school today is a much more pleasant experience!
